Join me for a day exploring the birthplace of Albariño, one of Europe’s finest white wines. Together we’ll visit two outstanding wineries in the heart of the Salnés Valley, meeting the people behind the wines and discovering why this corner of Galicia has earned an international reputation for producing Albariños of remarkable elegance, freshness and character.

Many of the vineyards lie just a few kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean. The combination of granite soils, cool sea breezes and a mild maritime climate gives the wines their unmistakable freshness and subtle saline character. It is this unique Atlantic terroir that makes Rías Baixas Albariño unlike any other produced around the world.

Day itinerary
  • Your day begins at 9.30am when I’ll collect you from your hotel or another agreed meeting point. From there we’ll travel to Cambados, widely regarded as the capital of Albariño country. Before our first winery visit, we’ll take a gentle stroll around the elegant Praza de Fefiñáns, one of Galicia’s most beautiful historic squares.
  • We’ll then visit two carefully selected wineries, each offering a different perspective on Albariño. Rather than simply tasting wines, you’ll meet the winemakers, hear their stories and gain an insight into every stage of production, from the vineyards and harvest to fermentation, ageing and bottling. Along the way we’ll compare different styles and vintages, discuss ageing on the lees, the occasional use of oak, and discover how each producer expresses the distinctive Atlantic character of the region.
  • By lunchtime you’ll have worked up an appetite, and this is where another highlight of the day begins.
  • Galicia is home to some of Spain’s finest restaurants, and I take great pleasure in introducing guests to those I know and trust. Depending on the day and availability, lunch may be enjoyed at a Michelin-starred restaurant or at one of the region’s much-loved gastronomic institutions, where generations of locals have gathered around exceptional seafood and seasonal produce. Wherever we dine, outstanding cuisine is accompanied by excellent D.O. Rías Baixas wines in an atmosphere that reflects the warmth and generosity of Galician hospitality.
  • After a leisurely lunch, I’ll drive you back to your accommodation, giving you time to relax and reflect on a day spent discovering one of Spain’s most captivating wine regions. You’ll return not only with a deeper appreciation of Albariño, but with a genuine understanding of the people, traditions and Atlantic landscape that make these wines so distinctive.

What travelers say

“At extremely short notice, less than 24 hours, Adrian put together a one day lightning tour of Rias Baixas Albariño wineries for our party of 18 wine lovers.
We were particularly keen to visit a single vineyard winery, one that combined tradición and modernity, and this was fully realized visiting the gorgeous Pazo Baión. If anyone is considering a visit to any of Galicia and neighboring Castilla & León’s wine regions, they’d do very well to book with Adrian, a splendidly knowledgeable and fun host.”
