Sea Fishing For Winos And Foodies

In Galicia we have some of Europe’s finest sea-fishing marks. In the southern Rías Baixas, beautiful sheltered bays like the Ría de Arousa. To the north, the Costa da Morte or Death Coast, dreaded by mariners for centuries. Further north still is the majestic Cabo Ortegal which boasts the tallest cliffs in continental Europe. Nestling at the bottom of these cliffs are rocky outcrops where locals fish for bass with lures and for bream with 20ft poles. Add to that a string of jaw-dropping, wave-pounded Atlantic beaches and you begin to get the picture.

On this three-day boat fishing, wine and food tour we take you out every day on a 4-hour lure fishing trip in the Ría de Arousa where our main quarry are bass, but also mackerel, scad and the enormous, leaping garfish that frequent these waters. Specimens up to 3ft are not uncommon.

When we’re done, our skipper can drop us off on a beautiful uninhabited island fringed with white sands and crystalline water. In this charming setting we’ll have a spot of lunch with local seafood pie, gourmet seafood preserves and of course, a few bottles of delicious Albariño wine.

Price
  • Group size: 8
  • Price: 480€ per person/day.

Note: No supplement for single travellers.

While we’re not ‘messing about on the water’, we’ll be discovering the delights of the local seafood based gastronomy and some of the world’s finest white wines in the Val do Salnés and beyond.

We will visit elegant wine estates where top winemakers will show us how they battle with the elements, harnessing Mother Nature herself in the fight against fungal attacks and ‘plagues’ of vine munching aphids.

Our vineyard tours conclude with a winemaker led tasting. Not only will we get to taste the finished product but we will also taste the wine directly from different vats, enabling us to understand how the different styles of wines evolve during the painstaking and at times nerve-wracking winemaking process.

We’ll also have tremendous, feast for the senses experiences at the very best eateries in the region. Not only will we visit the time-honoured haunts but we’ll also check out the cutting edge chefs. The province of Pontevedra boasts six Michelin star awarded restaurants alone.

Further info of Tours
  • Depending on the tidal conditions, the fishing trips can be switched from the morning to the afternoon/evening and vice-versa.
  • If inclement weather should prevent us from going out, the boat trip will be replaced by activities of a gastronomic nature such as interactive showcooking sessions featuring the preparation of things like octopus ‘á feira’ and the famous local shellfish pie ’empanada’.
  • One of our most popular activities are visits to local artisanal gourmet seafood canneries. On these visits you can gain an insight into one of Galicia’s most important industries and of course privately taste amazing products like sea-urchin caviar and delicate razor clams, all washed down with fabulous Albariño wine!
