In Galicia we have some of Europe’s finest sea-fishing marks. In the southern Rías Baixas, beautiful sheltered bays like the Ría de Arousa. To the north, the Costa da Morte or Death Coast, dreaded by mariners for centuries. Further north still is the majestic Cabo Ortegal which boasts the tallest cliffs in continental Europe. Nestling at the bottom of these cliffs are rocky outcrops where locals fish for bass with lures and for bream with 20ft poles. Add to that a string of jaw-dropping, wave-pounded Atlantic beaches and you begin to get the picture.
On this three-day boat fishing, wine and food tour we take you out every day on a 4-hour lure fishing trip in the Ría de Arousa where our main quarry are bass, but also mackerel, scad and the enormous, leaping garfish that frequent these waters. Specimens up to 3ft are not uncommon.
When we’re done, our skipper can drop us off on a beautiful uninhabited island fringed with white sands and crystalline water. In this charming setting we’ll have a spot of lunch with local seafood pie, gourmet seafood preserves and of course, a few bottles of delicious Albariño wine.
